Where Love Meets Learning
'The Atlantic' just published a fantastic, must-read article about effective early education. It emphasizes all of the techniques use in Playroom Prep: dialogue, open-ended questions, fine motor skills, one-on-one connection. It notes what doesn't work: boring, rote, black and white worksheets.
The conclusions are clear: we need to get our young children to a place where they are comfortable and enthusiastic about learning, because like it or not, Common Core will require more of them than we have asked in the past. Our kids can be ready if we spend time with them at home working on the "lessons" of Playroom Prep! It is fun, simple, engaging ... learning is simply a by-product.
Please take time to read this article and consider how you can work with your child to increase the skills needed to give them self-esteem when they walk into their first classroom.
